The time allotted to a human being—or "lifespan"—is a finite and non-renewable resource with an unknown expiration date. Therefore, planning for the optimal use of this resource, particularly in the age of technology and speed, is of critical importance. In this research, the term "time management," meaning the study, evaluation, and effective utilization of moments in one's life based on moral foundations, is introduced as a "virtue" deeply interconnected with other ethical virtues. Using an analytical-jurisprudential method, this study will coherently examine the motivational and ethical foundations of time management and its role in cultivating other virtues, drawing from both Islamic ethics and moral philosophy. A virtuous agent must know when to perform an action and when to refrain from it; for even with a correct intention and action, performing it at the wrong time may render it non-virtuous. The findings indicate that time management and planning, due to possessing the components of a virtue—such as moral desirability, voluntary agency, being a mean between two vices, connection with practical intellect, and having cognitive and motivational dimensions—constitute an ethical virtue. It not only facilitates the exercise of other virtues but also fosters virtues such as piety (taqwa) and self-discipline in confronting base desires and exercising self-control.
